Frequently Asked Questions

Are Trio XTTM Treatments painful?

No. Trio XTTM TriPolar RF uses a contact cooling hand piece making the sensitive facial treatments comfortable and effective. Body contouring treatments are also quite comfortable and many of our patients actually fall asleep!
The procedure is virtually painless since it involves no surgery or ablative techniques. The therapist will slowly heat the surface of the skin to the proper temperature & will continually monitor the skin surface temperature to ensure both comfort & efficacy. Most patients describe a warming sensation on the skin. There is no "down time" following Trio XTTM TriPolar RF Therapy. You will be able to resume your regular schedule without any unpleasant symptoms or side effects!

What makes Trio XTTM Radio Frequency (RF) Technology works so well?

Radio Frequency is a term for 'Energy' in the form of a stream of photons of light that are moving at the speed of light.
The Trio XTTM RF system is powerful medical grade Radio Frequency technology that when applied to the skin therapeutically delivers very controlled deep heating at the desired tissue depth to tighten the supporting structures on your face and body. Trio XTTM RF technology comfortably penetrates the tissues deep down into the dermal layers where collagen fibers exist. When the collagen fibers are heated to the proper temperature, the fibers and connective tissues contract and multiply, which firms and tightens and improves your body shape and the appearance of your skin.

The radio frequency face lift has been approved by the FDA as a non-surgical treatment for wrinkles and facial skin imperfections. This treatment requires no downtime. Best of all, results are immediately noticeable, and they become even more so in the weeks following the treatment as the build-up of collagen affects further skin contraction.

How many treatments will I need?

The number of treatments needed depends on age, condition, the desired outcome and the necessary length of time it takes to achieve the individual's goal. Treatment numbers vary from person to person but most procedures involve 4-6 treatments. Session times will vary depending on the area being treated.

What is the Cost of a Treatment Program?

Treatments are available for several facial and body areas and fees vary depending on the treatment area chosen. Treatments are available in singles or in cost effective prepaid packages. A price list is available upon request.

When Will I See Results?

Most people see measurable results immediately following each treatment. Since collagen will continue to rebuild, the volume of the collagen fibers will also continue to increase, results will continue to improve for 10 to 12 weeks post treatment. Each treatment result is cumulative, long lasting and may continue improving for several months!

Is Radio Frequency Therapy Right for My Skin Type?

The Trio XTTM RF system is safe for all Fitzpatrick skin types.

How Do I Get Started?

During your first visit, you will be asked to fill out a medical health history form and together we will assess your eligibility for therapy and your desired goals. Once this step is completed, your therapist will discuss the procedure, your customized treatment plan, and set up a optimal treatment schedule with you.

Can Radio Frequency be used on any part of my body?

No. Radio Frequency cannot be used on several parts of the body. Our therapists are trained professionals who take utmost care and caution when applying Radio Frequency treatments.

What areas can be treated?

Individual facial areas: Forehead, Eyes Crows Feet, Mouth, Cheeks, Chin/Jaw, Neck Full Face, Full Face & Neck
Upper Arms, Upper Back, Abdomen, Buttocks, Hips
(Love Handles), Thighs, Legs.
Combinations of areas are also available.

What types of aesthetic concerns are corrected with RF Face Treatments?

RF is an alternative for patients who are not ready for more invasive treatments such as Botox® and surgery. RF creates the look of a brow lift, tightening of the forehead tightening of skin under eyes, diminishing large pores, lifting laugh lines, jowls and sagging around the jaw line, as well as wrinkling along the neck and décolleté. RF improves skin laxity, renewing facial contours by accelerating collagen and elastin renewal.

Can anyone have this procedure done?

This procedure is usually performed on patients in their 30s-60's. A consultation is necessary to determine realistic goals and expectations. The treatments are most effective for those with a BMI [Body Mass Index] of 20-30%. Those with greater BMI may require a combination of Ultrasound Cavitation Non Surgical Liposuction and RF therapy to reach desired goals.

Are there patients who should not have this procedure?

Patients with electrical devices such as: pacemakers, heart valves are ineligible for RF therapy. Those with metal implants or artificial metal joints in the treatment area are also ineligible. The RF energy may interfere with some of these devices and/or heat up the metal implants. There are other health conditions, pregnancy, nursing that are contraindicated. A consultation will determine whether or not RF therapy is right for you.

How long do results last?

Results vary from patient to patient. They can last up 24 months or more based on the patient's natural aging process and sun and environmental exposure. A maintenance treatment periodically will help maintain results. It is also worth noting that when RF therapy is used in combination with other modalities such as Oxygen Facial, Lumi8 and BioCrystal Masque, IPL, Diamond Peel Microdermabrasion, the results derived from RF treatments can be enhanced.

What is the RF Face Treatment Procedure?

1. Cleansing the skin to be treated with a wash suitable for the
patient's skin type, to remove make up and surface oils.
2. Cooling gel is applied to the skin being treated so the RF hand
piece can move over the skin easily and comfortably.
3. The RF hand piece glides over the area being treated in a specific
motion to give a lifting firming effect.
4. Excess gel is removed from the skin.
5. The skin is gently cleansed and patted dry.
6. A soothing SPF moisturizer and toner appropriate for the
    patient's skin type is applied.

Are there Pre and Post-treatment recommendation?

Before you have an RF therapy done you should avoid any type of sun exposure either by lying out in the sun, using artificial tanning with tanning beds or self-tanners, etc. This should ideally be avoided for several days before and after RF treatments. After RF treatments, you should follow practitioner recommendations for an at home skin care to maintain long lasting results.

Can RF therapy be combined with other anti-aging treatments that you offer?

Yes, RF therapy can be combined with many clinic therapies such as Diamond Peel Microdermabrasion, Lumi8 Phototherapy, BioCrystal masque, Oxygen Facials, IPL (intense pulsed light) Laser treatments to further diminish red and brown skin discolorations with few risks and minimal downtime. Alpha LED OxyLight full body therapies promote detoxification and enhance RF body contouring sessions.

What is Cellulite?

Cellulite is the "lumpy" looking substance commonly found on the thighs, stomach, upper arms and butt. You may have heard people say it looks like "marshmallows or cottage cheese" under the skin. Cellulite is actually a fancy name for collections of fat that pushes up against the connective tissue beneath the skin making the surface of the skin pucker and look lumpy. You can check to see if you have cellulite by pinching the skin around your upper thigh. If it looks a bit lumpy, you probably have it.
If you do have cellulite, you're definitely not alone: most girls, women and some men have cellulite.

Several things influence whether a person has cellulite and how much they have. Your genes, your gender, the amount of fat on your body, your age, and the thickness of your skin are all associated with the amount of cellulite you have or how visible it is.

It doesn't matter what causes cellulite, there aren't many miracle products, treatments, or medicines that can make it go away. Liposuction (surgery to remove fat) and mesotherapy (injection of drugs into cellulite) are expensive. Liposuction is designed to remove deep fat but cellulite is close to the skin. Creams can help but on their own they're not very effective.

Trio XTTM TriPolar RF is an effective method to reduce cellulite as it reduces fat and stimulates deep collagen renewal. It also tightens the skin. With TriPolar RF the depth of penetration and the surface tightening of skin work together to produce amazing results.

Can Radio Frequency be used to treat pain?

Yes, Aesthetic Radio Frequency can be used to temporarily reduce pain but because of the nature of the therapy and the tightening effect it creates it must be used very carefully and only on limited areas of the body. At GrassRoots, we sometimes incorporate the use of RF before applying Laser Therapy for pain but only for very specific problems and in limited areas. Aesthetic RF therapy was designed for aesthetic/cosmetic purposes as noted in the information above.

Aesthetic Radio Frequency must not be confused with or compared to Surgical Radio Frequency Ablation which is an invasive technique that is used to directly damage, melt or deaden nerves and tissue with very high temperatures in hopes of relieving pain in the body. This surgical procedure is almost always accompanied by some degree of risk. Thus, the use of surgical RF technology is only performed by a surgeon and must be accompanied with caution and care, particularly with consideration for the unknown long-term risks and effects.

The special type of Radio Frequency utilized invasively/surgically called IDET, or Intradiscal-Electro-Thermal-Annuloplasty, which is a big term describing the threading of a thin filament into the disc and applying high heat to the inside surface serves to do many different things, one of which is to reduce pain by melting the nerves within the disc.

Medical Therapeutic Laser Therapy is a much better treatment option for pain as it decreases inflammation and swelling, stimulates endorphin production [endorphins are the body's natural pain killer], improves circulation and oxygenation and ATP production bringing healing all the way into the mitochondria of the cell.

Our Medical Therapeutic Lasers Systems are not cosmetic lasers. They are designed by a Canadian vascular surgeon to specifically treat pain and many pain causing conditions.
